My very good friend 'auld Jimmy' or 'auld Monty' was like myself
a Bridgeton boy born and bred.
We spent many a happy hour talking of our east-end roots and I
did a wee article on his Bridgeton family
in my
GlesgaPals website, which delighted him.
The Bridgeton Working mans Club motto was 'Learn from the
past, use well the future' and oor Jimmy did learn from the
past and used his expertise to help his beloved Cambuslang
Bowling Club in every way he could. His record at our club is
outstanding. |
1977 - President of the club
He along with the then President of Halfway & District BC,
Jackie Fergus inaugurated a new tournament
The parish match between our two clubs is made
that wee bit special since 1977 the tournament challenge cup was
called - The McGinlay Trophy,
donated by the then owner of the Sun Inn Mrs Maureen McGinlay.
Both clubs have competed for the trophy ever since with the
format of 2 pts a win.
I was delighted as President in 2006 to take this
photo of Jackie & Jimmy at the annual parish game and indeed
gave these two stalwarts special mention.

1984 - Club champion.
Jimmy delighted his wife, family and friends by winning the club
championship. |

1992 - President of the club
for a second time.
This was the mark of the man that when the club was having a problem
getting a new President, Jimmy stepped in and took over the helm
again. This was the year CBC embarked on charity work
inaugurating the Alex MacFarlane Memorial charity bowling day. |

1995 - Honorary President.
His efforts over the years for Cambuslang BC were rewarded when
he was given honorary office. |
Jimmy was ever present on committee
and as a Director served the House and Bar for over 15 years.
The bar was always well run and many of our
club Presidents, myself included, were delighted
to have Jim's expertise at their opening day's
and at parish games.

In Jimmy's latter years the main bar
helpers were Liz, Nancy & Jeanette.

held by the Directors in June 2006
to thank Jimmy and his team for their dedication |

Jimmy's family are all very much
part of Cambuslang B.C. His wife Lottie was a member and for
many years catered for the club, every July we have the Lottie
Montgomery Mixed Rinks tournament in her memory. |
He loved his family and this year with his health deteriorating
he moved house to be near his daughter Fiona
|
Fiona is ever present at the club
with her husband Past champion John McInall and their two sons,
Jamie & John.... seen here with their Granda on holiday.
|
Jimmy senior was very proud of his family and
especially proud of the bowling prowess of his son Past
President Jim Montgomery Jnr who has won the club championship a
record eight times, 1988-2006
I was delighted to capture this moment on finals day 26th
August 2006.
Jimmy also told me how proud he was of the work young Jim and
the family
put into running the charity day at our club and
indeed from 1992 to 2008 the Alex MacFarlane memorial charity
day has raised over £36,000.

|
Yes, the Montgomery family are all steeped in Cambuslang Bowling
club and we have lost a legend ....
well
done good and faithful servant
...... rest in peace, pal. |
