Volunteers
honoured at annual SLC awards
ceremony
Community Service award to
club member Jimmy
Lindsay
Cambuslang
community stalwart, Jimmy was
given a community award for his
voluntary work with
the
Boys’ Brigade and for his annual
Santa routine – which
local residents contribute
to.
|
Each
year Jimmy dons a
Santa Claus costume,
hops on board the back
of his friend, and
Cambuslang BC member,
Ralph Caldwell’s jeep
and waves to the
children of the
Morriston Park Drive
estate, whilst his
wife Margaret and
helpers dish out
selection boxes to the
local children.
Jimmy’s
grandson Jason (11)
rides shotgun and
provides Christmas
music for the annual
event, which has been
going on now for the
past eight years.
Jimmy was nominated
for the South
Lanarkshire Community
Service award by
Councillor Russell
Clearie MBE

Provost Eileen
Logan said: "Hosting
this annual awards ceremony
is the best part of my job
as Provost.
It is a very humbling
experience to hear of just
how much good work is being
carried out in our
communities.
“These awards allow
my fellow councilors and I
to acknowledge the
achievements of some of the
army of volunteers out there
who work tirelessly for the
good of others - making
their lives that bit better.
“Their selfless
dedication to helping others
cannot be calculated by
money - or even by the hours
they put in.
The knock-on effect makes
our communities as a whole
so much better for everyone.
So that is why we have this
awards ceremony every year -
to pay our respects and
honour our volunteers for
what they do."
Congratulations
Jimmy!
He now adds his name to the list
of Cambuslang BC members who
have been honoured for their
community work in South
Lanarkshire Council.

Hoad
Memorial tournament |
The annual Jimmy Hoad
Memorial Triples was played last
Saturday 7th June, when 63
players took to the green under
threat of a
very poor weather
forecast. In the end, the
weather won the day, as play was
abandoned when the green flooded
after each team
had played 4 of their 5
scheduled qualifying
matches.
The winners were declared on the
basis of scores at that time,
and they were the Uddingston
rink of Brian Magowan, Don Bell
and Ian Charlton. The
picture shows the winning triple
with sponsor Stewart Hoad and
club president Scott Hunter.
Stewart was
his usual generous self, and his
efforts raised over £600 for
club funds, and we are very
grateful for his continuing
support.
£180 was raised from an auction
held during the Jimmy &
Audrey Hoad Memorial
Triples.
This was added to other
donations and £1,180 will be
split equally between Cambuslang
& District Voluntary Care
Club and Ward 4 at Hairmyres
Hospital. See Charity
